The Yellowknife Fire Division, which includes ambulance services, proudly provides fire, medical and rescue services to the citizens and visitors of the City of Yellowknife. We are committed to protecting the lives and property of our community through excellence in prevention, education, training and emergency response.
Yellowknife Fire Divison staff work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to help keep our community safe. Full-time firefighters work in a four platoon system, consisting of eight staff each. Shift schedules consist of two days on shift, two nights on shift, and four days off. The days shifts are ten hours long, while the night shifts are fourteen hours long.
The Yellowknife Fire Division consists of:
- One Fire Chief
- Two Deputy Chiefs
- 36 Full-time positions, including Four Captains and Four Lieutenants
ANNOUNCEMENT: FREE HOME AND PROPERTY ASSESSMENTS
The City of Yellowknife Fire Division (YKFD) is conducting free home and property assessments for Yellowknife and Ndilo residents from now until fall 2024. This assessment will highlight areas of risk and provide specific recommendations of actions and upgrades residents can take to increase their property’s resilience to wildfire.
Local homeowners, business owners and property management companies are invited to request a free assessment with a YKFD staff member by filling out this online form.
