Committees of Council are established to study issues and make recommendations to City Council. They are broken down into two categories: standing committees and ad hoc committees. City Council has also established technical and administrative committees to assist in various matters affecting the community. These committees do not require members of Council to be members of the committees, though they report to Council as necessary.

The City of Yellowknife is now accepting applications for one (1) representative from the public at large on the Community Advisory Board on Homelessness. The purpose of the Community Advisory Board on Homelessness (CAB) is to assist the City in an advisory capacity regarding homelessness issues within the municipal boundaries of the City of Yellowknife. The role of the CAB is to:
