The City of Yellowknife is pleased to offer a variety of funding opportunities to Yellowknife-based non-profit organizations, individuals, groups, partnerships and businesses, through the Community Grant Program and the Heritage Committee Grant Program.
2025 City Grant Applications are Open
Residents are advised that applications are now being accepted for grants within the Community Grant Program and the Heritage Committee Grant Program for 2025. The application deadline is Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at 5:00 p.m.
The Community Grant Program consists of three grant categories:

Community Grant Program
The purpose of the Community Grant Program is to fund and partner with community non-profit organizations to deliver programs, projects or events that align with the funding priorities outlined in the Community Grant Funding Policy, have a clear community impact and respond to community needs. Eligible organizations may only apply under one (1) grant category: Community Service grants, Multi-Year grants, or Sponsorship grants. Funding levels are reviewed and set annually by the Grant Review Committee.

Community Service Grant
It is the policy of the City of Yellowknife to provide one (1) year Community Service grant funding to non-profit organizations based in Yellowknife for start-up or enhancement of programs or projects. The maximum amount to be awarded is 30% of the submitted budget to a maximum of $10,000.00. Funding must be used within the grant year. Community Service Grant Application.
Multi-Year Grant
It is the policy of the City of Yellowknife to provide three (3) year Multi-Year grant funding to established non-profit organizations based in Yellowknife for operational requirements, programs and/or projects. The maximum amount to be awarded is 30% of the submitted budget to a maximum of $50,000.00. Multi-Year Grant Application.
Sponsorship Grant
It is the policy of the City of Yellowknife to provide one (1) year Sponsorship grant funding to established non-profit organizations based in Yellowknife to sponsor or host an event. The maximum amount to be awarded is 30% of the submitted budget to a maximum of $20,000.00. Funding must be used within the grant year. Sponsorship Grant Application.
Final Report
All recipients of grants within the Community Grant Program must submit a final report for grant funding by December 15 of the year the grant was awarded, or within 60 (sixty) days of the event, program or project's end. The remaining 25% of funds for Community Service grants or Sponsorship grants are released after the final report is received and reviewed.
Heritage Committee Grant Program
Heritage Committee grants are awarded to Yellowknife-based individuals, groups, partnerships or business entities to promote, celebrate and enhance Yellowknife’s rich heritage; or leave a legacy of Yellowknife heritage for future generations through various forms of presentation. The Heritage Committee may grant up to $5,000 for a proposal, whereas any request exceeding $5,000 must receive Council approval. The maximum grant amount that can be awarded for a given project is $10,000. Heritage Committee Funding Application.

Final Report
All recipients of Heritage Committee grants must submit a final report for grant funding by December 14 of the year the grant was awarded, or within 60 (sixty) days of the event, program or project's end. The final report must consist of a summary of the project completed, photos or materials used for media ads and expenditures. Unlike Community grants, there is no specific format or template for this report.
