The Solid Waste Facility Access Hours for the Residential Public are different than the hours for the Commercial Contractor Access Hours. Please look below to find the appropriate hours that you require.

The City of Yellowknife wishes to inform residents that the subsurface fire, which was identified in October 2024 in the Construction and Demolition (C&D) landfill cell at the Solid Waste Facility, has now been extinguished. The City will continue regular monitoring as per our usual protocols.
As of Thursday, February 13, the Solid Waste Facility (SWF) will resume its regular hours of operation during the week and on weekends for residents and commercial contractors.
The City would like to thank our partners and contractors for the assistance they provided as we worked to resolve this incident. We would also like to thank the community for their patience during this time.

Residential Public Access Hours: Monday: Closed Tuesday to Sunday: 11:00 am to 4:15 pm Closed: Holidays Closures for upcoming Holidays:
Any vehicle that accesses the site for disposal must ensure they are off site for closure at 4:15 pm. To ensure this takes place, large loads (such as a full truck load, a trailer, etc.) will not be accepted during the last 15 minutes of operation time or after 4:00 pm. |

Commercial Contractor Hours: Monday to Friday: 7:30 am to 4:15 pm Saturday and Sunday: 11:00 am to 4:15 pm Closed: Holidays Closures for upcoming Holidays:
Contractors (i.e. registered account holders) can access the SWF 7 Days a Week, minus Holidays. Any vehicle that accesses the site for disposal must ensure they are off site for closure at 4:15 pm. To ensure this takes place, large loads (such as a full truck load, a trailer, etc.) will not be accepted during the last 15 minutes of operation time or after 4:00 pm. Contractors that want to access the SWF should register via a New Baling Facility Account. |
