Yellowknife’s Aquatic Centre is a state-of-the-art facility designed to offer a wide range of programs and events for all ages. Outfitted with exceptional amenities, this facility promises to be a hub of activity, wellness, and community enjoyment.

Hours of operation

Pool hours

  • Monday-Saturday from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Sunday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. 

Canteen hours

  • Monday-Friday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.*
  • Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

*Starting in June, the canteen will be open for lunch on weekdays 

Closures

  • Holidays – Closed on December 25 and will have reduced hours on statutory holidays
  • Maintenance – The facility or certain amenities may be closed due to scheduled maintenance and/or repairs

Location and parking

The Aquatic Centre is located at 6000 Franklin Avenue, near the YK Community Arena and the Curling Club. The closest intersection to the Aquatic Centre is Franklin Avenue and Forrest Drive.

Those travelling by public transit can take Bus Route 1 – YK connector. Check out the bus schedule and download the Passio GO! real-time tracking app to ensure you have a smooth journey to the facility. 

Visitors of the Aquatic Centre are welcome to park in the parking lot in front of the facility. Additionally, there are bike and scooter racks, as well as a covered stroller shelter located outside the main doors.

Amenities

The Aquatic Centre is proud to offer top tier amenities, promoting leisure, wellness, and athletic development.

Key features

  • Lap pool – 8 lanes, 25 metres, cooler temperature, 3 metre and 1 metre springboards
  • Big waterslide – Equipped with a red light/green light system and water curtain
  • Leisure pool – 3 lanes, 25 metres, warmer temperature, small and medium waterslide, beach entry, lazy river, spray features 
  • Splash pad – Includes an arch, umbrella, water curtain, geysers and two cannon
  • Therapy pool (hot tub) – Maintained at 37 degrees C
  • Steam room – Spacious, maintained at 38 degrees C
  • Multipurpose rooms – Two rooms on the first floor
  • Meeting room – One room on the second floor
  • Viewing area – Located on the second floor, accommodates 200 people
  • Universal change rooms – Two rooms, each containing 13 all-gender stalls and one accessible stall. Accessible stalls are equipped with a private shower and an accessible change table
  • Northern design features – Mosaic of Yellowknives Dene First Nation flowers and the North Slave Métis sash, lobby ceiling décor representing the Northern Lights
  • Canteen – Locally operated canteen
  • Patio – Large patio available for Aquatic Centre visitors during unreserved times in the summer

Canteen

Grab a bite to eat at the Aquatic Centre’s canteen, run by My African Cuisine in YK. With African flavours woven the menu, it's the perfect place to refuel during your visit. Whether you're after a quick snack, a refreshing juice, or a hearty meal, My African Cuisine in YK has something to keep you energized for your next workout. Support local and enjoy great food, all in a convenient and welcoming spot within the Aquatic Centre!

The Aquatic Centre is an inclusive facility, with a range of features to accommodate families and individuals with accessibility needs. Diversity, equity and safety are among our top priorities. Our staff is committed to ensuring everyone, regardless of ability or limitations, can enjoy our facility.

Sustainability
The Aquatic Centre is designed with an emphasis on sustainability, following an energy model which places the facility 15% above the National Energy Code of Canada for Buildings. Features like a regenerative filtration system, a leading-edge full stream UV system, and a pellet boiler as the first source of heat minimize energy consumption and reduce the facility’s environmental impact. With sustainability integrated into the facility’s design, the Aquatic Centre not only provides a high-quality experience for visitors but also contributes to a greener, more eco-friendly future.
