Garden Competition

The City of Yellowknife’s Annual Garden Competition is back for 2026, and blooming better than ever!

From July 1 to 31, 2026, residents are invited to take part in this fun, community-driven celebration of the gardeners whose creativity and green thumbs help beautify our city. This year, the competition will be delivered through a new interactive app, making it easier than ever to participate.

Residents will be able to:

• Submit photos of their gardens directly through the app

• Browse, view, and vote for their favourite gardens throughout the competition period

2026 Garden Categories:

Tiny Garden
Gardening of all types in small spaces such as plots, patios, and balconies.

Bee Friendly
Environmental and pollinator-friendly gardens with little to no lawn, showcasing alternative and eco-conscious landscaping.

Vegetable Garden
Gardens focused on vegetables, herbs, and other edible plants.

Flower Garden
Gardens that are welcoming and visually appealing, featuring an abundance of blooming flowers and strong curb appeal.

Container Garden
Creative container gardening in small spaces, including plots, patios, and balconies.

Rock Garden
Gardens that feature rocks and stone elements while showcasing creativity and resilience in northern horticulture.
