In observance of the Labour Day Holiday on Monday, September 1, City of Yellowknife facilities and services will operate as follows:
• City Hall: Closed
• Solid Waste Facility: Closed
• Garbage Collection: Operating as per regular schedule
• Trucked Water and Sewer Pumpout: Operating as per regular schedule
• Fieldhouse: Open from 12p.m. – 6p.m.
• Multiplex: Open from 12p.m. – 6p.m.
• Aquatic Centre: Open from 12p.m. – 1p.m. for lane swim and 1p.m. – 5p.m. for public swim
• Yellowknife Community Arena: Closed

Compost Facility Fire on August 18, 2025

On the afternoon of Monday, August 18, 2025, a piece of equipment operating within the Compost Facility at the Solid Waste Facility (SWF) caught fire. The fire spread to nearby piles of cardboard but was quickly and effectively contained through the coordinated efforts of the Yellowknife Fire Division (YKFD) and SWF staff.
