Vehicle Fire Downtown

In the early morning of Sunday, July 21, 2024 at 03:25 a.m., the Yellowknife Fire Division received a call for service for a vehicle fire behind an abandoned house on 48th Street.

When crews arrived, they found a sport utility vehicle (SUV) on fire with another vehicle right beside it. Both vehicles were parked directly behind a shed that was located on the property.

On Saturday, July 20, 2024 at 4:03 p.m., the Yellowknife Fire Division, with assistance from the Government of the Northwest Territories’ Department of Environment and Climate Change, responded to a fire 150 meters behind the Legislative Assembly building. Upon arrival, crews found a prebuilt tent pad burning, with fire extending to the vegetation. The tent pad was destroyed during the fire.

On Friday, July 19, 2024 at 4:05 p.m., the Yellowknife Fire Division, with assistance from the Government of the Northwest Territories’ Department of Environment and Climate Change, responded to a forest fire 150 meters behind Stanton Territorial Hospital. Upon arrival, crews estimated there to be a 10 square meter fire consisting of pallets, with fire spread into the trees and underbrush within the vicinity.

Yellowknife Fire Ban Reinstated

Due to the current extremely dry conditions, the City of Yellowknife is implementing a fire ban that will be in effect starting Friday, July 19, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. (noon). The fire ban prohibits open air burning and discharging of fireworks within city limits, including the use of approved fire pits, and will remain in effect until further notice.
