Drive-in Movie Returns

The City of Yellowknife, in partnership with Western Arctic Moving Pictures (WAMP), is excited to announce the return of the popular Drive-In Movie Night this summer.
This event will place on Friday, August 30, 2024 at 8:30 p.m. between the Multiplex Arena and Fieldhouse on Kam Lake Road. The gates will open at 7:00 p.m. The double feature for the evening includes Lilo & Stitch and the Fifth Element.

The City of Yellowknife’s Annual Garden Competition is back by popular demand!
This year’s competition will take place from Monday, August 12, 2024, to Monday, September 9, 2024. Recognize the hard work that Yellowknifers put into their properties by nominating your favourite garden. The list of categories can be found below, as well as on the City’s website. Following nominations, residents can vote on which garden they feel deserves the title!

Structure Fire in Ndilo

In the early morning of Thursday, August 8, 2024 at 2:48 a.m., the Yellowknife Fire Division (YKFD) received a call for service for a structure fire on Tililo Tili in Ndilo.
When crews arrived, a vehicle and the exterior of a house was on fire. The occupant was assisted from the home and the fire was quickly extinguished. The occupant was treated for symptoms of stress on the scene, no physical injuries were reported. The RCMP also attended the scene and assisted with traffic.

Woodchip Fire Extinguished

On Wednesday July 24, 2024 at 12:50 p.m., the Yellowknife Fire Division responded to a fire at the Con Mine site. Upon arrival, crews found a 20 square foot pile of chipped wood on fire.
Firefighters deployed their hose lines and started fighting the fire. An excavator arrived and began pulling the woodchip pile apart, giving firefighters access to the inside of the pile. Firefighters verified the fire was fully extinguished using a thermal imaging camera.

In celebration of the Old Town Ramble & Ride festival, the City of Yellowknife is offering free transit service for all routes and YATS on Saturday, August 3, 2024. As per the regular transit schedule, there will be no public transit on Sunday, August 4, 2024.
