Wildland Fire on Highway 3

The Yellowknife Fire Division (YKFD) received a call for service to kilometer marker 324 on Highway 3 on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at 12:40 a.m., reporting a fire in a generator shed that spread to the forested area.

Fire Ban Lifted July 5, 2024

Effective immediately, the mandatory ban on open-air fires that was put in place on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. (noon) has been lifted for the City of Yellowknife due to recent precipitation and cooler temperatures. A fire ban may be issued if fire danger conditions are extreme and necessitate a ban.

The City of Yellowknife (the City) invites the public to celebrate Canada Day at the Somba K’e Civic Plaza on Monday, July 1, 2024 from 12:15 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
During this free event, everyone can enjoy family-friendly activities, including a bouncy castle, a balloon artist/magician, and a variety of live performances. Fire ban in Yellowknife

Due to the current extremely dry conditions, the City of Yellowknife is implementing a fire ban that will be in effect starting Thursday, June 20, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. (noon). The fire ban prohibits open air burning within city limits, including the use of approved fire pits, and will remain in effect until further notice.

Call Out for Canada Day Vendors

The City of Yellowknife (the City) is accepting applications for art, crafts and food vendors for the Canada Day celebration. This event will take place on Monday, July 1, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Somba K’e Civic Plaza.
Please complete this vendor application form to express interest in participating. The application deadline is Thursday, June 27, 2024. Note that preference will be given to non-profit organizations or parties who donate a portion of their revenue.
