Canada Day Holiday Hours 2025

In observance of the Canada Day Statutory Holiday on Tuesday, July 1, City of Yellowknife facilities and services will operate as follows:

•     City Hall: Closed
•     Solid Waste Facility: Closed
•     Garbage Collection: Operating on regular schedule
•     Trucked Water and Sewer Pumpout: Operating on regular schedule
•     Fieldhouse: Open from 12p.m. – 6p.m.
•     Multiplex: Open from 12p.m. – 6p.m.
•     Aquatic Centre: Open from 12p.m. – 1p.m. for Lane Swim and 1p.m. – 5p.m. for Public Swim
•     Yellowknife Community Arena: Closed

The City of Yellowknife (the City) invites residents to celebrate Canada Day at Somba K’e Civic Plaza on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Tourist Accommodation Tax Remittance

A reminder to all local short-term rental (STR) operators that on April 1, 2025, the 4% levy came into effect.  It must be collected, and owners must report the total revenue subject to the Tourist Accommodation Tax on each stay shorter than 30 consecutive days.

The first reporting period and payment, covering April 1 to June 30, 2025—must be submitted between July 1 - July 30, 2025. This levy applies to all STR accommodations, including those booked through online platforms.

City Installs Bike Lanes on Range Lake Road

Bike lanes have been installed that run the full length of Range Lake Road — from Woolgar Avenue near St. Joseph School to Finlayson Drive at the N.J. Macpherson School intersection — creating a continuous, safe route for cyclists of all ages. 

The new lanes improve safety, encourage year-round cycling, and connect two major school zones, benefiting students and the surrounding neighborhoods.
